Explore the Road to Hana in a completely unique way. Similar to our Classic Road to Hana Tour, you'll drive the 64.4-mile stretch of Hana Highway from the town of Paia to Hana. However, instead of returning the way you came, you’ll complete a counterclockwise loop around the island, discovering the rarely explored backside from Hana.

Our Loop Road to Hāna tour brings together winding coastal roads, waterfall scenery and Hāna’s stories. Before choosing this route, please confirm access to its backside section. The usual 10–12 hours describes the full route under normal conditions.
Maui County’s Kalepa notice lists Hana Highway between mile markers 38 and 39 closed to through traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday–Friday except holidays. Only emergency vehicles can pass during work hours. Although it lists opening outside those hours, conflicting project dates leave the current schedule uncertain.
Check the county Kalepa project notice and Maui road updates while planning and before leaving. Confirm the crossing with the county before committing to the loop, and respect barriers so your adventure starts with a clear plan.

Please pay attention to all parking signs. Parking illegally on the Road to Hana can not only result in a ticket, but it is also extremely disrespectful to people who need to use this road every day.
The traffic on the road greatly impacts their lives, so you can help do your part by parking legally and adhering to all signs.
We’ll advise you on where to park during the tour, and if there are no spots available, just wait for a spot to open up.

5. Can I join the Loop Road to Hana tour along the route?
Yes! Feel free to join the tour along the route. Just make sure that you follow the numbers in chronological order from where you are starting from. If you don’t begin at one of the tour starting points you’ll miss a few stories, but you’ll still have a great experience.
6. Can I take the Loop Road to Hana tour in the opposite direction?
No, this tour can only be done clockwise, beginning in Kahului and ending in Kula. If you’d like to start the tour in Kula and end near the airport in Kahului, try our Reverse Road to Hana tour.
7. What if I am spending the night in Hana?
Great! This means you can really take your time and break the tour up into two days. Just switch the tour off when you arrive in Hana, and turn it back on when you’re ready to get on the road the next day.
8. Is it safe to drive the Road to Hana at night?
We don't recommend driving the backside of Hana after dark. Portions of this route are remote, narrow, and can be difficult to navigate, especially in poor weather or low visibility.
Start the tour early and plan to complete the backside portion during daylight hours. Always check current road conditions and closures before starting your tour.
