Hey BRP friends!
Virginia’s Parkway is connected again from Humpback Rocks through Apple Orchard Mountain and Peaks of Otter, with forested curves, overlooks and mountain history along the way. Plan about 6–8 hours for the full drive, selected short walks, photo stops and a meal break.
A short section at the James River Bridge remains closed for rehabilitation, but the National Park Service has a signed detour between mileposts 61.4 and 64 that reconnects you with the Parkway. Follow the detour rather than entering the work zone.
Check the official road-status table and James River project details while planning and again before departure. Fall and winter weather can change access quickly, so leave a little flexibility and enjoy the views at an easy Parkway pace!

There is no fee to enter the Blue Ridge Parkway, but there are some stops on the tour with entry fees.
4. What are the parkway hours for the Blue Ridge Parkway Virginia Driving Tour?
The parkway is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Portions of the parkway may close to do inclement weather. Visit the NPS website in advance.

5. Can I join the Blue Ridge Parkway Virginia Driving Tour en route?
Yes! The tour has two starting points, one in Waynesboro, VA near Shenandoah National Park and one in Roanoke, VA by Explore Park. But, feel free to join the tour anywhere along the route. Just make sure that you follow the numbers in chronological order from where you are starting from. If you don’t begin at one of the tour starting points you’ll miss a few stories, but you’ll still have a great experience.
6. Can I take the Blue Ridge Parkway Virginia Driving Tour in the opposite direction?
Yes! The tour is available from south to north or north to south. For those traveling south to north, you’ll begin the tour in Roanoke, VA. If you’re traveling from north to south, you’ll begin the tour in Waynesboro, VA.
7. Can I combine the Blue Ridge Parkway Virginia Driving Tour with any other Shaka Guide tours?
