Hello Shaka Guiders!
Great news: the Parkway climb from Asheville through Craggy Gardens to Mount Mitchell is open again, bringing back a rewarding mountain day of overlooks, forest scenery and high-elevation views. Allow about 4–6 hours for this open section and return, including short walks, photo stops and a meal break.
Helene repairs still close the Parkway between Mount Mitchell and Little Switzerland, so the full advertised route cannot be driven continuously. Enjoy the Asheville-to-Mount Mitchell portion, or reach northern highlights separately by public highways without entering the closure.
Check the official Parkway road-status table and Mount Mitchell updates while planning and before departure. Fall and winter access can change quickly, so leave a little flexibility and plenty of time for the views!
