Mount Rainier National Park Tour

As of February 2026, Mount Rainier National Park will not require timed-entry reservations for the 2026 summer season. After pilot programs in 2024 and 2025, the park is dropping the system and will manage peak-season crowds with parking and traffic measures instead.

Shaka Guide Tip: Visit before 7 a.m., after 4 p.m., or on a weekday to avoid the busiest times.

Olympic National Park Tour

Hi Shaka Guiders,

We wanted to share a quick update about Olympic National Park, specifically the Lake Quinault and Rialto Beach portions of our tour.

Right now, South Shore Road at Lake Quinault is closed at mile 8 due to a major road washout. Because of this closure, drivers are not able to complete the full loop around Lake Quinault as outlined in the tour.

Rialto Beach is also expected to be inaccessible for much of the summer due to Mora Road construction beginning July 8, 2026. This means travelers may not be able to visit Rialto Beach or hike to Hole-in-the-Wall during that closure.

What does this mean for you?

You can still take the vast majority of the Olympic tour, but you’ll need to skip the full Lake Quinault loop and plan around the Rialto Beach closure. These are only portions of the full route, and there are still many other amazing stops to enjoy throughout the tour.

Graves Creek Road and North Fork Quinault Road remain accessible by North Shore Road only, but road conditions can change. As a reminder, our Olympic tour is a bit of an adventure, and conditions are not always the same from day to day. Before you go, we recommend checking the latest Olympic National Park road conditions.

Crater Lake National Park Tour

Hi Shaka Guiders,

Just a quick heads up before your Crater Lake adventure!

Our tour is still a fantastic way to experience the park, but Crater Lake is always changing a little—especially during construction season. When we last checked, East Rim Drive was temporarily closed between Park Headquarters and Phantom Ship Overlook, and the Cleetwood Cove Trail was also closed while it's being rebuilt.

For most visitors, that simply means turning around where the road closes and retracing part of the drive. You'll hear a little familiar narration on the way back, and a few stops beyond the closure will have to wait for another visit. The rest of the park—including Rim Village, West Rim Drive, Pinnacles Road, Cloudcap Road, and many of Crater Lake's most iconic viewpoints—remains just as spectacular.

One important note: these conditions may have changed by the time you're reading this. Construction schedules, road openings, and trail access can change throughout the season, so we encourage you to check the official National Park Service alerts before your trip to see the latest updates.
