Makauwahi Cave is Hawai'i's largest limestone cave and one of the richest fossil sites in the islands. Geologists believe that the cave began its formation up to 400,000 years ago as a sand dune. Take a hike down into the cave and explore this living musuem. Volunteers offer free guided tours. Donations are welcome. When you finish at the cave, check out the nearby tortoise sanctuary.

Start your visit to Shipwreck Beach with a hike along the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail for panoramic views of the bay. This stunning coastal trail follows the shoreline of south Kaua'i and features many natural and cultural wonders. You'll find native plants and animals, the fascinating Pa'a Sand Dunes, a sinkhole cave, and absolutely breathtaking ocean views! The trail is about four miles roundtrip, but feel free to hike as much or as little as you like.

To access the trail from Shipwreck Beach, head towards the left and follow the path that leads to the top of the large rock cliff. The vantage point from the top of the cliff is breathtaking! If you're here between December and April, you may even get lucky and spot migrating humpback whales.

As a word of caution, you may see some visitors cliff jumping off the large cliff on the trail. But please do NOT follow their example. It's extremely dangerous. People have been seriously injured and a few have even drowned after attempting a jump. Please obey all the warning signs and stay safe, okay?

Koloa Landing doesn’t look like much now, but in the mid-1800s, this was the main port for the entire island. Back in the day when ocean voyages across the Pacific easily took months to complete, this spot was used to replenish supplies and provisions because of its ideal position between the Americas and Asia.

Poipu Beach Beach Park is a very popular and family-friendly beach located along the south shore of Kaua'i. With a big open park area and crystal-clear, gentle waters, Poipu is an excellent choice for a picnic as well as snorkeling and swimming. 

Amenities include parking, lifeguards (seven days a week), restrooms, showers, and picnic tables

The 13-acre Kāneiolouma Cultural Complex is a Hawaiian cultural site that includes remnants of an ancient fishing village dating back to the 1400s. Here you can find remains of houses, fishponds, religious shrines and altars with carved idols that have lain undisturbed for centuries.

Time to hit the beach! Start the day with a quick dip in the ocean. Lawa'i Beach is small, but it’s a great spot for snorkeling and swimming when the water is calm. While you’re there, look out for Hawaiian sea turtles! If you see them, keep your distance - these are protected animals, and getting too close will result in a large fine.

Pro Tip! If you want to snorkel, go early in the morning. The water is less murky and there are fewer people. 

At Spouting Horn, watch as the waves roll in and a blowhole shoots water up to 50 feet in the air! This is more than a natural wonder, the site also has a mythical backstory that we’ll tell you along the way. Note, this spot has plenty of parking and public restrooms.

There’s loads of history on this tour, and the Koloa Jodo Mission Buddhist Temple is no exception. It’s a little temple that was built back in 1910 by Japanese immigrants who came to work in the sugarcane fields.

End your day visiting the unique shops and boutiques in Old Koloa Town. Take your time to walk around his quaint historic town here and absorb its unique heritage. There’s also some great spots to grab dinner. We recommend Koloa Fish Market which has phenomenal poke bowls and other great local food plates.

This seaside town is home to beautiful beaches, great local eateries, and cute shops. Stop by for a walk around the town or a bite to eat. We’ll visit Poipu Beach later in the tour. 

Alekoko Fishpond was said to have been created by the legendary Menehune, who are believed to be the first people to inhabit Hawai'i. This fishpond is a masterpiece of engineering invented in ancient Hawaii, and the scenery that surrounds it is beautiful.
