Must-See Scenic Spots in Maui

Megan Potter

Maui is home to over thirty miles of beach and the largest dormant volcano in the world and scenic hikes through forests to waterfalls. All of this beauty means you'll find plenty of beautiful spots on your visit!

Haleakala Sunrise or Sunset

The sunrise at Haleakala can best be described using one word… epic. On Shaka Guide's Haleakala Tours we'll guide you to the crater summit where you'll feel on top of the world as you watch the sunrise. With light beaming over the crater and clouds all around you, it will be an incredible experience — too beautiful to forget.

Sunflower Field

You’ll capture the perfect photos while strolling through this Maui sunflower field. The fields are located at the corner of Honoapi’ilani and Kuihelani Highway. The oil from these vibrant flowers is used for honey, cooking, massage oils, and beauty products, and is now being used to make a reef-safe sunscreen!

The Road to Hana

The Road to Hana is a 64.4-mile-long stretch of road with waterfalls, hikes, and beaches all along the way. Plan a whole day or stay overnight to explore the stops on the way. There are a lot! Some of the most photogenic spots include:

  • Ho’okipa Beach
  • Twin Falls
  • Wailua Lookout
  • Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside
  • Hana Lava Tube
  • Wai’anapanapa State Park
  • Koki Beach
  • Ohe’o Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools)

Ho’okipa Beach

Ho’okipa is mainly a surfer’s beach, where pros can test their skills and spectators can marvel as they conquer the waves. Although swimming is limited, there are small tide pools running through the middle beach where you can take a dip.

Iao Valley State Park

Iao Valley State Park consists of luscious green valleys with waterfalls running the length of mountains. If you’re looking for a completely natural setting, Iao Valley is your place to be. It’s a great spot for some family photos!

Pipiwai Trail

The 4-mile hike of Pipiwai Trail leads you through thick, mysterious bamboo forests. What’s better is that once you find your way through the forest, you’ll end at Waimoku Falls. Not only will you get great photos along the route, but you’ll also snap an epic picture in front of a massive waterfall.

No matter where you are in Maui, you’re never too far from a picture-perfect spot. Be responsible as you’re taking photographs — never put yourself or anyone else in danger while you’re searching for that great shot!

Shaka Guide has six driving tours on Maui where you can road trip to some of the best spots. You’ll catch pristine sunsets, discover fields filled with flowers, and more — you’ll be sure to fill your itinerary with the beauty of Maui!
