Hawaii Holiday Gift Guide - Local Gifts Everyone Will Love

Gifts that Give Back 

1. Adopt a Nene

Did you know the nene goose is Hawaii's state bird? Rigorous conservation efforts helped bring these birds back from the brink of extinction. Unfortunately, they're still a vurnerable species today. You can help by "adopting" a nene. For $30 you'll get official adoption paperwork, information about your nene and a postcard. The money will help protect this special bird.  

2. Adopt a Sea Turtle

The Hawaiian green sea turtle, or honu, is not only a beautiful marine animal, but it has special cultural signifficance in Hawaii too. For $40 you can "adopt" a honu and you'll receive a certificate with information about your turtle, a fact sheet, a bookmark, brochures, and a chart with your turtles recent basking activitiy. 

3. Adopt a Monk Seal 

Hawaiian monk seals are one of the most endangered species in the world. These adorable mammals live off Hawaii's coast and you might even catch a glimpse of one resting on the islands' beaches. If you do, be sure to keep a safe and respectful distance. You can "adopt" a monk seal - or a host of other marine animals - through Hawaii Wildlife Fund

4. Plant a Tree 

Hawaii has a variety of unique flora and fauna, including loads of endemic trees. These trees house a variety of Hawaii's native birds. For $10 you can "plant a tree" throught the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project. 

5. Build a Sand Filter

People love Hawaii for it's award-winning beaches, but, these beaches are often populated by micro and single-use plastics. You can help preserve Hawaii's coastlines for generations to come by donating to Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii. A $50 donation will build a sand filter to sift through the sand and find debris.

1. Cookies Honolulu Cookie Company
