Hawaii's Climate: Diverse and Unique, but all Beautiful

Shaka Guide

Listen to audio sample:

Big Island is one of the most unique places in the world, with 4 out of the 5 major global climate zones and 8 out of 13 subzones. Most locations around the world usually only have 1 or 2 different climate zones. Kailua-Kona, on the west side of Big Island, features a hot and dry climate, while the eastern town, Hilo, is a wet tropical rainforest environment. Mauna Kea is a periglacial climate with evening temperatures falling below freezing. With a relatively small landmass, these different climate zones mean new and interesting scenery and environments, all without having to travel very far! They also resulted in a profusion of life forms found nowhere other than Hawaii.
